Glow Pickleball
It is a social evening of fun and food on Sunday, October 12, 2025. We’ll play under the stars and black lights, and decorate your white duds with “glow” or neon paints. We’ll begin grilling hot dogs and brats at 5:45 pm. Plan to bring an appetizer, snack, or simple dessert to share. Dinner at 6 pm. BYOB.
Pickleball: After dining, we will play Pickleball under the black lights beginning at 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. It is purely playing for fun and recreation, less competitive to avoid injuries. We’ll strive to light three to four courts and use paddle rotation.
Hot dogs, brats, buns, plates, flatware, and condiments will be provided. We’ll accept donations just to cover expenses of meat & buns.

2025 Youth Tennis Clinic a Grand Slam Success!
The 2025 Youth Tennis Clinic was held over four evenings from June 30 to July 3 and proved to be a tremendous success under the expert leadership of Coach Larry Brown. Dozens of young players, divided into two separate age groups, were introduced to the fundamentals of tennis through engaging instruction and fun-focused drills. The goal was not only to develop skills but to inspire a lifelong love of the game—and judging by the smiles on court, mission accomplished! A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers who made this annual event possible. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the over twenty volunteers for their unwavering support of the Youth Tennis Clinic. Their dedication in showing up every night played a key role in making the program a success and in fostering the future of tennis in Pentwater. Their commitment is truly appreciated!
2025 Pentwater/Ludington Pickleball Challenge – July 25 Recap
It was an evening full of energy, competition, and camaraderie on Friday, July 25, as Pentwater and Ludington faced off at the PTPC courts! The event drew a great crowd of players and spectators alike, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere at the club. Each team fielded six doubles pairs in three categories—Women’s, Mixed, and Men’s Doubles—with each pair playing three games, for a total of 54 games across the event. The final tally: Pentwater 22 – Ludington 32, with the traveling trophy remaining in Ludington’s hands for another year. Pressure Washing: A big thank you to all of the volunteers who recently helped pressure wash Tennis Courts #3 & 4. Your time and effort make a real difference in keeping our facilities looking great and ready for play!
PTPC in the Homecoming Parade: We’re looking for member volunteers to represent PTPC in the Pentwater Homecoming Parade! They are needed to walk the route, hand out used tennis balls, and help promote a positive image of our club in the community. So far, only four members have signed up—but our goal is twenty volunteers or more. This is a great opportunity for newer members looking for a fun way to get involved. Season Finale Dinner/ Social/ Tennis & Pickleball Play: All PTPC members and their house guests are invited to our end-of-season celebration on Sunday, August 24! Join us for tennis and pickleball play starting at 4:00 PM, followed by a casual dinner at 5:30 PM featuring brats, burgers, salads, and sides. No need to sign up for play, but please RSVP by August 18 so we can plan for food. We’re only asking approximately fifteen members to bring desserts—if you’d like to help, just list your dessert in the comment section on SignUpGenius. Please note: a $5 fee applies to each guest. Pentwater / Ludington Potluck and Mixer: On Monday, August 25, Ludington will host the Pentwater / Ludington potluck and mixer at their courts. The potluck will happen form 12:30 – 1:30 pm, followed by pickleball play. Pentwater players will be mixing with the Ludington players. The Pentwater players are asked to wear white shirts. If you want to participate, please register on SignUpGenius and list what dish you plan to bring in the ‘comment’ section.
Help Others Put Their Best Foot Forward by Donating a Pair of Shoes: Ludington is asking if PTPC members would like to contribute to Every Sole Matters — a community service program that distributes new or used shoes to people in need. If you’d like to contribute gently worn shoes, or shoes that you no longer wear, you can can drop them off at the club during the end of the season mixer on 8/24, or bring them on 8/25 to the Ludington/ Pentwater mixer. Thank you.
Ludington Classic Pickleball Tournament: Is taking place on September 5-7 @ Oriole Park, W Tinkham Ave, Ludington. You can register here. Registration fee is $85 (includes t-shirt). Registration closes Aug 22nd. Partial refunds after Aug 1st, no refunds after Sept 1st. They already have 181 registered participants.
Microplastics in the Lake Meeting: Art Hirsch, a noted climate scientist, will be speaking about “MICROPLASTICS and what can be done about it” on August 18 at 7 p.m. at the Pentwater Library. PENTWATER SWEEPS BROKEN TOE TENNIS TOURNAMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER A DECADE
The annual ‘Broken Toe’ tennis tournament took place on Saturday, July 5, 2025. In a commanding performance, both the Pentwater men’s and ladies’ teams captured victory against our long-time rivals. This marked the first time in more than a decade that Pentwater has brought home both trophies in the same year. The competition, hosted at the Schoenherr Tennis Center in Ludington, featured nine men’s matches and five ladies’ matches. The Pentwater men won 7 out of 9 doubles matches, while the ladies achieved a 5–0 shutout. This milestone win continues a recent trend of Pentwater success, as both the men’s and ladies’ teams have now won the trophy two out of the last three years. Players, coaches, and supporters celebrated the historic win together afterwards. All of our players showed exceptional sportsmanship and determination, and it was inspiring to see both groups lift the trophies for the first time in so many years. The Broken Toe tournament remains a beloved tradition fostering friendly competition and camaraderie between the two lakeshore communities. Plans are already underway for next year’s event, where Ludington will look to reclaim the titles, and Pentwater will aim to defend its hard-won dual crowns.
FIRST EVER YOUTH ACTIVITIES EVENT
It was fun and games for all ages up to 19 years old on July 16th, when Jeff & Lauren Quinto hosted our first ever “Intro and to Pickleball” for our youth members. Thanks to both of them for organizing and running the event.
PICKLEBALL ADULT CLINIC
Thanks to Jim & Jeri Kett who introduced their first ever “Beginners Pickleball Clinic” on June 5th. We also appreciate the four volunteers who assisted in delivering the clinic – Jodee & John Melse, Amy Maffeo, and Connie Eifert. The clinic was a big success as fourteen beginners learned and practiced the basics of pickleball. Ten of the participants were non-members, along with four members. A fee of $25 was charged to the non-members. All proceeds went back to the club.
WOMEN’S WELCOME BACK BREAKFAST
We had over twenty-five participants on Friday, June 6th. Everyone feasted on various breakfast goodies, and no one went away hungry. Of course, there were plenty of leftovers, and any men who showed up were invited to eat as well. Thanks to Linda Bauman for her hard work, and to the Social Committee for hosting this fun annual event.
ROTATING PARTNER ROUND ROBIN MIXED PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT
There were twenty-two participants played in this first pickleball tournament of the 2025 season. Ryan Brenninkmeijer placed first, Byron Miller second, and Andy Snider third.
POTLUCK APPETIZER SOCIAL
Rain caused this year’s event to be moved to the Channel Lane Park. The rain started shortly before the scheduled event. In no time, everyone was notified, the PTPC picnic tables were cleared and the paper products and tables were transported. The food was terrific with choices for everyone underneath the picnic pavilions. A big thank you to all the organizers and helpers!
PICKLEBALL LADDER
The first pickleball ladder of the 2025 season took place on June 24th. A total of twenty-four players participated, with each player drawing a chip to determine which court they would play on. Players kept track of their own wins and losses. After three games, everyone rotated and played with three other players. A big thank to Ron and Jan Gooding for running this event!
COACH LARRY BROWN
We’re excited to share that Larry has recently received major recognition from the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association (MHSTeCA). He will be inducted into their **Hall of Fame in 2026** – an incredible and well-deserved honor! We also want to congratulate Larry and his Ludington girls’ tennis team for winning this year’s **West Michigan Conference Championship Tennis Tournament**. Thank you, Larry, for all you do for our youth players and the tennis community. **Great work and congratulations!**

Brian McAuley is offering a recurring Tennis Drill Clinic on Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:30–11:00 am. He is also offering a recurring Pickleball Drill Clinic on Mondays from 2-4 pm. In addition, Brian is available for “Private Individual” or “Private Small Group” lessons.
COURT PAINTING
A crew consisting of Mike & Kati Guercio, Jeri & Jim Kett and Andy Snider painted the cracks on the tennis and pickleball courts on June 24. A big thank you to all the workers, especially to Mike who organized the effort.

We were unable to reserve ‘Park Place’ for our scheduled Thursday, August 14th meeting date. We decided to reschedule the meeting at ‘Park Place’ to Thursday, August 28th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Members can RSVP on SignUpGenius.

Active member involvement is the heart and soul of our club. The PTPC Board sincerely thanks each of you for your ongoing support of this treasured community.
We are now in the height of the season, with full courts every morning on both the west and east sides, along with clinics, events, and pick-up games throughout each day.
Our club operates on an honor system, which means we trust each of our members to follow the rules and policies without the need for constant oversight or enforcement. This approach is rooted in mutual respect and shared responsibility, allowing us to maintain a welcoming and fair environment for everyone. When members uphold the honor system, it ensures that fees are paid appropriately, courts and facilities are used considerately, and the club can continue offering quality programs and services. Ignoring the honor system not only places an unfair burden on others but also undermines the sense of trust and community that makes our club special.
To maintain our courts and facilities, we depend on all sources of income. Guest fees generated by hosting our friends & family members remain an important source of such income. We rely on each member to uphold the honor system by following guest fee policies and completing the sign-in and payment process posted in the kitchen. This ensures fairness to all and helps keep our club strong for the future. Guests must always be accompanied by a member; this ensures proper supervision, maintains accountability for all players using the courts, and helps protect the integrity of our club for everyone. We also ask for your help in keeping the grounds secure by checking that all gates and doors are locked before you leave.

ANNUAL DUES
Invoices were emailed to each member on or around March 26th. If you didn’t receive your invoice, please send a message to: PentwaterTennisClubTreasurer@gmail.com. Dues are to be paid by June 1st, so if you haven’t yet done so, please send your payment ASAP. You can access the Annual Dues website page here.
PICKLEBALL ORGANIZED & OPEN PLAY
Signup is available now for Pickleball Open Play. Organized Play signup is set to begin Monday, June 2nd. Everyone is asked to use SignUpGenius for daily organized play. This allows everyone to see whether space is available to bring their guests.
TENNIS PLAY
Players are free to arrange their own tennis or pickleball matches during the early part of the season. Signup for Organized Play is set to begin on May 20th (Men & Women). Tennis Balls are available for Organized Play (shelves in SW corner of clubhouse storage area).
GUEST FEES
Our guest policy for the upcoming season remains unchanged. Members are responsible to pay the appropriate daily guest fee of $10 for non-family; $5 for immediate family– brothers, sisters, adult children; No-charge for children and grandchildren under age 21 (or under age 25 if a full time student). We encourage guest fee payments to be paid on the date of play.
FIRST BOARD MEETING
The first Board meeting of the 2025 season was held on March 3rd, and the minutes are available in the Member Docs section of the website (password required). The June Board meeting is June 10, Tue, 11:30am – 1pm at 223 N Wythe St in Pentwater.
COURT REPAIR AND PAINTING
Is scheduled for Sunday, May 18th at Noon. “Crack Crew” leader: Mike Guercio. You can sign up here.
WINDSCREEN INSTALLATION
Is scheduled for May 19th at 11am. Please help us get the windscreens up, if you’re available. Bring a step ladder and wire cutters. You can sign up here.

Invoices have been sent via email as of March 26, 2025. Please check your inbox to find you 2025 annual invoice, and contact us if you didn’t receive one. Payment is due by June 1st. There is a $25 late fee for payments received after that date.
Spring Cleanup Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 from 1-2pm. Thanks to the (14) people who have already signed up. If you wish to join the fun, you can sign up here.

NEW REGIONAL PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT 
The nice folks at the Lakeshore Pickleball Club in Grand Haven are hosting what looks like will be a very cool, new pickleball tournament. The Grand Haven Open, is scheduled for Aug. 14-17. PTPC members will be welcomed to join in the fun as Spectators, Participants, Volunteers and/or Sponsors. Registration is OPEN, and they currently have an Early Bird special!
